I know I’m a bit late to the party, but everyone else has been sharing their stories with this game, so here goes..

When I was 14, this game dropped and I was in a SUPER bad place emotionally. I was depressed, struggling with lots of things in my personal life and more. I didn’t really get super into it until the winter after it released, since I was really shy about my love for Pokémon, because at 14, people act like their “too cool”

But that fateful day, I decided to download the game on my phone and played it. I picked Charmander, and named him after the one I have in Pokémon FireRed. I was hooked. It reminded me of my better days, when I was a child, trading cards and watching the show with my friends after school, and I recconected with distant family and friends I had been estranged from or just lost contact. It was a magical feeling, getting to build my own Pokémon journey with my friends, like my childhood hero did. Pokémon go perfectly combined the games, show and cards, and I spent every day after school walking the dog and playing the game with my friends. I felt the gray cloud lift from above my head, and created fantastic memories, from walking cold roads and beaches, to the tropical sunset of Hawaii to the scorching heat of Texas. I played it everywhere. It helped me re connect with my love for Pokémon, a favorite franchise for 12 years. I have been playing Pokémon Go avidly for 4 years, and now that It’s the 25th aniversary i want to thank all of you at the Pokémon company from the bottom of my heart for making my childhood amazing, helping through my depressing Middle School years, and helping make my young adulthood wonderful. Thank you Pokémon:)

Sitting in the 25th anniversary and five years later, I get overcome with emotion. I stopped playing this game in 2017 however considering how much they’ve added, I’m tempted to download it again.
25th anniversary–I hope a new Pokemon game (most likely a reboot of Diamond and Pearl for the switch) drops in celebration of the 25th anniversary instead of just the special promotion at McDonalds.
